Winemaking notes
The reclusive Alan Webster lived alone in the years after the second world war in the scrub land behind the Kilikanoon cellar door, west of the hamlet of Penwortham. Trapping rabbits, growing his own fruits and vegetables and making his own wines in a galvanised lean to, he was given the nickname 'Killerman' by Mort Mitchell and his friends when they were growing up, after Alan's bush survival skills of 'kill em and eat em', thus the legend of Killerman was born.
Viticultural notes
Warm days and cool nights promoted full fruit ripeness and flavour development whilst still retaining tremendous poise, natural acidity and tannin balance. An excellent year for enhanced cellaring potential. All of our Killerman's Run range have been crafted through careful fruit selection, traditional winemaking techniques, sixteen months maturation in new and seasoned French oak hogsheads and bottling unfiltered to fully enhance the wines character and appeal.
Tasting notes
Appearance: Dark ruby in colour with youthful crimson tints
Nose: Lifted aromas of musk, rose petal and liquorice craftily interweave with notes of French oak char and woodsmoke.
Palate: Silky and textural on the palate yet one that strikes a balance between richness and vivacity. The flavours of licorice, dark cherries and mocha chocolate feature strongly and meld seamlessly with the peppery tannins and firmed acidity
Pairing notes
Pair with Chorizo and porcini mushroom risotto.
